Clueless

As you may have guessed by my blog title, I am in love with the movie Clueless.

I first watched it when I was a lot younger, probably in the early 2000's. I was definitely too young to understand all of the references but I just fell in love with Alicia Silverstone's character, Cher. (I also LOVED the tv show they made, anyone else???)

A few years go by, I become more interested in my new emo phase and less interested in pretty, girly, clueless Cher Horowitz. Then out of the blue, it's there again, back in my life. I was in my first year of university and I had nothing to do a lot of the time, (ooops probably should have been doing uni work) so Netflix became my sanctuary.

I must confess, I have watched this movie repeatedly since this first year of uni, I couldn't even count, it must be more than 50 times in 3 years. I just love it, and there are so many things that make it lovable.

This wouldn't be a blog post without mentioning the 41 outfits Cher wore in the movie. My personal favourites are: the red dress she wore on here date with Christian, the white Calvin Klein dress she wore to the college party, the driving lesson ensemble, the red tartan dress, coat and beret combo, and of course who could forget the infamous yellow tartan suit.

I could go into so much detail about every outfit, but I simply do not want to showcase the depths of my weird Clueless obsession on the internet, so I'll just pick one.

The yellow tartan. It's iconic, you see that bold yellow pattern and instantly know it is Cher from Cluess. I like how one of the first scenes is her in this outfit, and how she uses the 90s computer to pick it for her. It is just such a statement outfit, as she walks down the path with Dionne the two look so powerful and in charge.

As well as the film's obvious fashion impact, I think a lot of people overlook how much of a role model Cher's character is. There aren't many films out there that highlight an independent young girl who takes care of her father, heads a relief committee at school, stands up for what she believes in, and helps her friend better herself, all while getting good grades. Obviously she is a spoilt brat most of the time, but I can think of so many people worse than Cher that many people look up to nowadays.

Overall, it is just a great movie and if you haven't seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend.
